Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you accept my insurance?
Wilder Wellness & Physical Therapy is out of network with all commercial and government insurances. We have reasonable cash-pay rates available for those with commercial insurance. Unfortunately, due to current Medicare/Medicaid laws, we are unable to accept cash payment from Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries for physical therapy services. However, we can see Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries for services that are not covered by their insurance, such as wellness.

Why should I pay cash? Doesn't my insurance cover physical therapy?
There are several benefits to cash-pay physical therapy. First is up-front pricing. You will know the cost of each visit you schedule and will not receive any surprise bills after the fact.
Second is often a savings in out-of-pocket costs as we are able to get you well faster! Take this traditional PT clinic scenario: You have a $30 copay per PT visit using traditional insurance and are seen 3x per week for a minimum of 4-6 weeks in a busy outpatient clinic. Now compare that to one cash-pay visit per week where you receive one-on-one care for a full hour, and you can see where you are actually saving time and money! Additionally, some insurances require PT visit costs to go toward your deductible if you have not already met it. In this case, in a traditional PT clinic, you could be paying $100+ out-of-pocket per visit until your deductible is met! More individualized care for less out-of-pocket cost with cash-pay PT is a win-win!
Third, by not using traditional insurance, we are not bound to physical therapy visit limits or pre-authorizations for care. This means your practitioner is guiding your plan of care, not an insurance company.

Will I be given notice of costs for my visits in advance?
Yes. Our pricing is offered to you within your intake paperwork so you will see all potential costs before your first appointment. Additionally, you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate of costs over your entire plan of care. Call (865) 850-8050 or email courtney@wilderwellnesspt.com with any questions.
-
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, or Venmo. Additionally, we are able to accept health savings account (HSA) cards.
-
Can you provide me a superbill so I am able to submit my own out of network claim?
Yes, upon request and at the conclusion of your treatment, we are able to provide you with a superbill for treatments you have received. You can submit these to your commercial insurance carrier for potential out of network reimbursement. Out of network coverage varies greatly among plans and we suggest calling your insurance carrier before submitting for clear expectations regarding potential reimbursement.
-
Can I be seen without an order from my doctor?
The state of Tennessee allows for direct access to physical therapy, which means you are able to see a physical therapist first for your musculoskeletal problems. If you have already seen a medical provider for your issue within the last 3 months, an order is warranted so we may stay in communication with your treating physician. Physician orders for physical therapy can be faxed to (615) 747-2114.
-
Can you see me for physical therapy after my surgery?
We would be happy to work with you post-operatively with an order for PT and will work with your surgeon to ensure communication throughout the course of your care. Post-operative PT orders can be faxed to (615) 747-2114.
-
Will I see the same physical therapist each visit?
Yes. All treatment is provided by Courtney Wilder PT, DPT, ATC, Cert MDT. You will receive consistent care each visit and will not have to worry about explaining your symptoms over and over again to different practitioners.
-
What is the difference in a physical therapy evaluation and a wellness screening?
A PT evaluation is generally warranted when you have pain that is limiting your function in one or more areas. Wellness screenings are appropriate for those who would like to find areas of imbalance in flexibility, strength, or stability that may contribute to the development of injury in the future or for those who would like to attain a higher level of performance by maximizing their abilities in these areas.
-
How many times per week will I need to be seen?
This will depend upon your condition or what visits are prescribed by your MD. However, many patients find, due to the one-on-one nature of concierge PT, that they are able to see improvements in fewer visits per week. Many of our patients are seen 1x per week.
-
What if I prefer to be seen in a clinical setting? Do you only make home visits?
Wilder Wellness & Physical Therapy is able to see you for private one-on-one visits in a clinical setting if you prefer or if you home is out of our geographical travel area. We are currently able to see patients at Arden Yoga & Wellness, located inside Laser Therapy Chiropractic at 524 North University Street in Murfreesboro. Please inquire for available times by calling (865) 850-8050.
-
My daily pain is minor. I feel I could "just live with it." Do I still need PT?
Living with daily pain should not be the expectation. Often, simple muscular imbalances change our body mechanics and cause us to “wear” certain parts of our bodies more than we should, similar to driving a car with unbalanced tires. Often, fixing these simple strength, flexibility, or stability issues will eliminate these nagging daily pains. Why put it off when you could be pain free and prevent more serious injury down the road?
-
What do I wear for my appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing in which you are able to move freely. Access to the area you are being treated for is ideal…for example, shorts or pants that can stretch above the knee for knee patients.
-
What if I am in pain the day of my physical therapy appointment? Should I cancel?
Attending PT when in pain gives your physical therapist an excellent opportunity to see what problems you are experiencing as they are occurring. The goal of our sessions is to help reduce your pain so that you end up feeling better than when you began the session. We will not simply make you “exercise through pain.”
-
Will I receive a home exercise program?
Yes. Photographs/videos and descriptions of any exercises prescribed to you will be emailed to you at the conclusion of your visit.
-
What if I am not improving?
Wilder Wellness & Physical Therapy will always refer you to the appropriate medical practitioner if you are not progressing or if any red flags are noted that would warrant immediate further medical care.
